Cloud Computing is a transformative paradigm that is still in its formative years and as a result, there are major variances in the offerings from the different vendors. Here are the Top 10 questions to ask your Cloud Vendor or to include in your Cloud Computing RFP

1. What is the minimum expected Service uptime over a year ? How are services outages defined?
2. What are the Standard Operating Procedures during an outage ?
3. How can the Service Levels be monitored on an ongoing basis ?
4. What are the policies for compensating for the downtime ?
5. Is the Cloud Vendor amenable to my Audits if needs arise ?
6. Is the Access to data secure, encrypted and authorized ?
7. Is my company’s data segregated from other customer’s data ?
8. What happens to the copies of data when my contract expires ?
9. Can I specify where my data will reside and my application will run ?
10. Are these policies applicable to backed up data as well ?

Cumulux had a substantial presence at the recently concluded Microsoft Professional Developers Conference( PDC 2009 )

Cumulux showcased the following at the PDC

1. Cumulux product – Mobile Axis -The first Enterprise mobility solution based on cloud using Azure

2. Cumulux Solution – Management of Cloud Applications including scaling, compliance, etc.

3. Cloudonomics – Cloud Economic Justification- How much can businesses save using the Cloud?

4. Cumulux Services – Cloud Assessments, prototypes, Architecture, Cloud Fit analysis etc

We had tremendous traffic in our booth and a great interest from attendees  in learning how Cumulux was executing on the vision of “Powering the Enterprise Cloud”.

On Monday, I had the unique opportunity of presenting Azure along with Dave Chappell to an audience in Chicago. Though I had done similar sessions at at least 25 different forums in the last few months, this was unique from a few perspectives. First, my co presenter Dave Chappell is an industry luminary who experience spans multiple industry shifts. It was great to sit down with Dave after the event and talk to him about how we saw the Cloud Computing industry evolving and the various imperatives from technology to economics to the various vendors.

Among the many topics we discussed , we talked in detail about the following:
1. Where is Cloud Computing in the maturity lifecycle ?
2. What are the some of the parallels to cloud computing ?
3. CXO talking points for Cloud Computing
4. TCO model for the cloud
