So exactly what is the intention of this project ? I am afraid that this might be a case of too little too late. The whole cloud computing initiative is now past the research stage and is in full scale innovation with Google, Microsoft and Amazon leading the charge.They are not going to slow down to talk about standardization, interoperability etc. Actually there is already plenty of interoperability in the clouds by accident. We can build an application today running on the Microsoft cloud leveraging Amazon S3 storage and Salesforce.com object model for customter data – In fact we have done that at Cumulux.

So the fear of Vendor lock-in though realistic is something that is often overplayed and a convenient excuse for organizations that are late to the party. There are several other more pressing considerations for Enterprises such as Compliance, Management of the Cloud, Migration, Co-Existence etc that should be and will be front and center of the strategy for the next 5 years.
