We believe that Sharepoint Online is a great tool especially for organizations that collaborate with 3rd parties like suppliers, customers, vendors etc , companies that have a substantial part of their workforce working remotely without constant access to the corporate network etc.

Cumulux is developing a set of tools and products that will enable organizations to provision ,migrate and run Sharepoint online in conjunction with existing Sharepoint instances. Sharepoint Online Migration and Synchronization Manager ( SOMS for short ) is a product we are building to aid companies not only adopt but also manage the data synchronization between the two systems. 

 

Here is a sample real world scenario: 

Consider a company that has 1000s of branch offices all across the country. They want to provide a collaboration platform for these branch offices and enable them to access select corporate information without having these employees to have to VPN into the corporate network or having to manage these websites in their corporate DataCenter. 

 

Migration
The corporate entity wants to provision these websites with uniform templates with a base set of documents pertaining to corporate policies and training for employees. This can be achieved by the “Migration” feature of the SOMS tool which will enable partial migration of select sharepoint lists/library data to be uploaded to sharepoint online sites.
 

Synchronization
Once this provisioning has been done, the company wants to make sure that new data published to the training section is kept continually updated in all these branch office Sharepoint sites. The “Synchronization” feature of the SOMS tool ensures that data is synchronized every time a new training video or PPT is published by the corporate.
